Application of the tool in your subject area
There are many advantages of the tool Facebook in relation to an educational purpose. The most effective way to use the tool Facebook for an educational purpose is for the teacher to make a group, and add all the students to this group. Consequently, the teacher can post images, text, videos, and audio communication tools. This will enable a one-to- much synchronous communication because the teacher will post information and the students will have the chance to comment on the posts. This would be real time communication and can also be considered a many-to –many synchronous form of communication as well because the students can have chats as well. . This means that more than one person can talk at a time, and the conversations will go to the entire classroom. This is efficient because you could post comments at any time during the day and at your convenience. The students will talk and bring ideas to one another which would enhance their performance in the class. They would combine ideas and theories so they will grasp on the material. The easiest way to learn is bounce ideas off one-another and that is exactly what this Facebook group would do.
However, there are certain disadvantages of the tool Facebook for the educational purposes. The most crucial disadvantage is that the teacher could never be sure that what the students write will be appropriate. Therefore, the teacher would have to monitor the conversations which would be difficult. This would mean that I would either have to trust my students to not post inappropriate material and comments, or I would have to monitor it all day and not allow real-time posts. This would mean that every comment the students would have I would have to check it before it is posted. This would lead to this tool to not being as effective, so I think the most logical decision would be to trust my students and have punishments for inappropriate actions. Also another disadvantage is that occasionally Facebook has trouble shooting and you are unable to log into it. This would cause a problem, and would slow down the process of teaching and learning.
